Lovely location
This hotel says it is dog friendly,
It is not you can only sit in the small hot conservatory or your room ,you are not allowed in the sitting area my husband was asked to leave when he sat down for a moment with our little dog. This hotel is barely dog tolerant. Spoilt our holiday.
The location and the very helpful young lady member of staff who was juggling balls to look after everyone.
We booked a room with kitchen facilities. We had a microwave, hob, fridge and dishwasher but no crockery, cutlery, cooking utensils. We booked for 3 adults and the third bed was missing in arrival. It was placed in the kitchen (very odd!). We booked 4 nights and the room was not serviced at all apart from the bins being emptied. We had to request toilet paper when it got low. No bottled water or glasses in the room. The terrace had dangerous uneven paving slabs and rusty railings. The gardens were uncared for with mismatched garden furniture that needed mending/cleaning. The common areas were strangely decorated with lots of dying plants and Christmas decorations (in July!!). The menus were very limited with lots of items ‘off’. There was a wine list but most items were either unavailable or horrendously expensive. No draught beers. Breakfast very limited having to choose night prior. They ran out of eggs one morning. The phrase ‘winging it’ comes to mind - utterly chaotic. The worst thing is the pricing. Massively overpriced for the room, the food and the drink. Such a shame as with a bit of organisation and a few tweaks thus could be amazing. I definitely would not recommend.
Excellent all round
It was perfect
The place in front of the sea.
Simple rooms with old furniture. The ambiente in general was not nice.
Spectacular location & view
Large comfortable room
Decor & food options
Building felt a little neglected - strange mix of Scottish & Asian style decor and food
Balcary is all about the view and serenity of the private beach, nice patio on our downstairs room to watch the tide ebb and flow , very pleasant young lady was very helpful throughout our short stay lady chef was also very pleasant .
First impression are not the best building and grounds are a little unkempt, more attention to detail required in room 19 ; curtain rail not up to the job, shower head support loose + drain partially blocked and paper peeling above bath.
Unfortunately property is being converted into a Wellness Retreat so will not in future cater for one night stays , or I expect cooked breakfasts!
Location and hotel room
Lack of variation in food menu..some dishes were very poor and overpriced...eg £13.50 for mediocre prawn cocktail. Lack of fresh seafood and no local meat. Wine list was a lottery as not much available from the full list...one night we were offered only a choice of sub standard house wine! And a chateau musar from full list priced at £125 was rather excessive for this style of hotel!
The location is fabulous
The young staff member was excellent
The food is very average for a country house hotel and is Asian vibes in Scotland!
The place is very disorganised. For example there was a very limited wine list available due to non stocking and the house wine was expensive without saying g what it was!
Beautiful views, and great access for walking the cliffs
breakfasts were first rate, the location was beautiful and peaceful perfect escape from urban life dining and lounge area were fantastic the room was very spacious with fantastic sea views. The decor and attention to detail, selection of furniture was impressive
The single-track access road was challenging but worth it
L'emplacement et le service
location
They can have more options for dinner, there are very limited option, we have to eat every day same if we are lazy to go out for dinner.
Location good but isolated. Staff friendly snd helpful
Limited dinner menu and expensive for wat was on offer.
Small very friendly hotel, Lovely remote location with outstanding views. Was greeted by Molly who showed us around the hotel and our room. We received a free upgrade and had the circular room on the upper floor with outstanding views. Molly was lovely and very polite and also did the bar service. Dinner and breakfast were very good . Highly enjoyable break and will certainly visit again.

Amazing location at the end of a 15min drive along a single track road. Beautiful views from the room across the bay. The Twin rooms have a small patio so you can walk directly across the lawn (no road!) to the (pebble) beach for a swim. Very comfortable stay.
The garden could do with a bit more maintenance, but the views were so spectacular that wasn't a big complaint. Dinner was very tasty though it would be good to have a bit more variety when staying multiple nights (we had the same four options every night: 3 fish dishes (one deep-fried) and 1 (fried) chicken dish).
Location is one of the best I've stayed at in the UK for the reality to match or even exceed the pictures. Staff were friendly and welcoming, the food was amazing, made with attention to detail, all served in superb surroundings, A real gem.
Nothing - it was everything I had hoped for.
