Didn't live up to expectations.
Pros:

We had noted the hotel website's own description as being "Luxury boutique" and were lookingforward to a stay of a few days.

The hotel is on the edge of town, but a 10 minute walk will get you to the sea front or main shopping area of Sidmouth, where a variety of restaurants may be found.

We stayed in a standard room, which was fine in itself.  The bed was good and firm, the bedside lights were dim and their light impossible to read by.  The bathroom had evidently recently been refurbished.  The shower was excellent, but the basin was the size of an eyebath and practically useless for washing anything but hands.  The space it occupied would have allowed a basin 6 inches wider, which would have made some difference. As is common in so many smaller hotels, there was nowhere, apart from one small shelf above the loo, to put personal toiletries, washbags etc.  No toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, moisturiser, shower cap etc) are provided for guests - just hand soap.

Breakfast is served in a 45 minute window.  There was a small selection of cereals, yogurt and processed fruit, but no toaster for guests' use, toast being ordered with ones cooked breakfast.  Dinner, which we had one night was served early, between 6.30 and 7.00pm.  The menu, which changes daily, offers three choices for each of three courses and if dining, your selection must be confirmed before 5.00pm on the day.  What we chose was pretty good, but having been pre-selected, service was rapid and the dining room was empty by 7.45pm.

If you wish to have pre-dinner drinks, these are available from an unmanned "honour" bar in the conservatory which has a drinks list at inflated prices - eg £9.00 for a glass of mediocre Chilean SB.

The hotel, whilst clean, is pretty old fashioned, not in a chic way, and the route to ones room can involve plenty of steps up and down, navigating passageways and corners. Definitely not luxury boutique.

Entsprach nicht den Erwartungen
Pros:

Verkehrsgünstige Lage, äußere Gestaltung, Parking am Haus, freundliches Personal

Cons:

Fantastic relaxing holiday in a great hotel

The room was lovely and spacious, very clean and comfortable but also keeping the feel of the original building, we were welcomed and made to feel welcome throughout our stay. Excellent location just a short walk to Sidmouth seafront and shopping area.
