Pros:

Beautiful room, freshly renovated shower room. Has a nice pool and sauna that we enjoyed. Good location for sightseeing of Freiburg. The room was well airconditioned. We were impressed that there was a menu of different pillows for comfortable sleep available. Employees there were nice and welcoming. Breakfast buffet featured classical Mediterranean breakfast with assortment of sausages. Grilled vegetables and tomatoes with cheese were nice.

Cons:

When we arrived, there was a mistake- our room was made for one instead of two guests; Also we were told that for our reservation the breakfast was not included. We then showed the booking for two guests with breakfast included, the person looked again, and confirmed there was a mistake on their side, and promised to update our records. However during checkout we were asked again to pay for our breakfast, and had to do the explaining again. This felt unprofessional.

The room itself was beautiful but felt a bit aged. We found open yogurts in the minibar, which seems was left by the previous guests. The toilet lid was not attached to the seat, toilet itself splashed water almost to face level when flushed. The shoverhead joint to the water tube leaked water in a thin water jet.

Selection of food was relatively little compared to other five star hotels. On one occasion we waited for around 40 minutes for our menu order to arrive, despite early morning low number of hotel visitors ordering.

There was a noisy construction ongoing right outside our window at 7 am, that woke us up. Also we could hear how the other rooms are being cleaned up

Form over function
Pros:

Old school aristocracy type experience, everything made of wood, classical music playing in the lift, gold trimmings all over, concierge wearing special uniforms to match. Very special from an aesthetic point of view. Valet parking.

Cons:

Worst of all, the mattress was rock solid and the pillows were like flaps of fabric. I got literally zero sleep. This is totally unacceptable. There is basically no air conditioning, it's a shared system where the air gets passed around the rooms in serial. It was non-existent, I was unbearably hot and they said they couldn't do anything about it. The shower was low pressure and hard to adjust. The seats in the room were extremely utilitarian and uncomfortable, again sacrificing comfort for style. A bunch of the rooms are about 4 minutes walk from reception, you walk through tunnel over the street into a different building, so it didn't feel like I was even staying in the hotel. I came here for work, not sure I would actually recommend the general location otherwise.
