L’exterior perquè està una mica abandonat i desmereix l’hotel

At first glance, Hotel Adler Chance has a very particular charm. It is an old-fashioned, somewhat eccentric hotel with a character of its own. The staircase leading up to the hotel itself has an almost spooky atmosphere, and the old roofed entrance to the reception area adds to that unusual feeling. In a strange way, it almost feels like stepping into an old film set.
Our room was pretty clean, which is good to mention. We stayed in the bridal suite. Unfortunately, it does not have a balcony, but that was our own mistake for not checking the room description carefully enough.
The bed was reasonably comfortable, and the room was furnished with old-fashioned furniture, giving it a slightly “Sisi” atmosphere. The bathroom is definitely dated, but the shower worked well and the towels were clean.
The coffee at breakfast was actually a pleasant surprise. It was served in a very traditional way, with an individual coffee pot, milk and sugar. Very charming, and the coffee itself was perfectly fine.
We also found the hotel and its surroundings to have a certain nostalgic character. If you appreciate old buildings, antique-style furniture and a place that is definitely not a modern, polished hotel, you may actually enjoy the atmosphere here.
Unfortunately, we did find a cockroach in the room, which we reported. We were told that this can happen when the window is open in warm weather. We found the explanation somewhat surprising, but did not want to make too much of it.
The breakfast was quite basic, with only old apples as a fruit. Perhaps this was due to the very low occupancy, as we saw only one other guest during our stay. The traditional coffee service with a small pot, milk and sugar was charming, and the coffee itself was perfectly fine.
Unfortunately, our departure left us with a negative impression. We had to pay €6 in tourist tax, which is of course reasonable, but were told it had to be paid in cash. The owner insisted that this was clearly stated in our Booking.com confirmation. I checked my confirmation and showed him that it was not included. Despite this, he continued to insist that it was.
We left to withdraw the money, and paid the €6 and tried to leave it at that, but the discussion continued. Afterwards, I contacted Booking.com, who confirmed that the cash-payment requirement was indeed not included in the confirmation I had received.
For me, it was never about the €6, but about how the situation was handled. A little understanding and hospitality would have made a big difference. I even sent the owner a friendly email afterwards to explain this, but unfortunately the response remained rather defensive.
I am sure the owner may respond to this review by saying that the information was in the Booking.com mailing and that he did everything he could to explain this to us. I respect that he may have a different perspective on what happened. However, I can only share our experience as guests. The information was not included in the confirmation we received, and regardless of where the information may have been displayed on the hotel’s side, the way the situation was handled left us with a very unpleasant feeling.
Please look further for a nicer hotel!
Umgebung schlecht gewartet. Steiler Aufstieg zur Unterkunft.
