Close to the road but I knew that so wasn’t a problem

No issues at all.

Bed was a standard double but not very comfortable. Otherwise it was ok.

Evening meal, part of it was cold and somethings were over cooked and shrivelled up not very nice veg at all , needed a socket on the wall to service the dressing table,on the other hand breakfast was great ,

Zimmer sehr warm, unendlich viele Türen bis zum Zimmer, kein Lift, Fenster kaum zu öffnen (wie fast überall in UK).

Reception was not good. There we stood on the customer side of the desk to see a girl rush past on the staff side. Zero acknowledgement or eye contact. She then rushed back in the same way. Then repeated the exercise without ever flicking a glance to us. Maybe she was shy.
The lady who then checked us in seemed worn, and it felt like a chore to be having to receive paying guests !! On this trip we've stayed in 9 different places, and the mood of the reception staff here was the worst. Staff hanging around at the back having a smoke and larking around was not what we'd expected.

Very disappointing stay – not what we expected from a 4-star hotel
My partner and I stayed at the Oyster Inn in Connel for one night. Given that it is advertised as a 4-star hotel, in a very popular tourist area on Scotland’s west coast, we expected a considerably better standard of accommodation and, at the very least, a decent night’s sleep.
Unfortunately, the room itself was disappointing from the moment we entered. There was an unpleasant smell which we can only describe as being like old or wet feet. The general condition of the room also fell well below what we would expect. There were numerous stains and marks on the carpet, scuffs and marks on the walls, chipped and peeling paint/plaster, staining and marks in the bathroom, and areas around the shower that appeared to need further cleaning and maintenance. We took photographs showing a number of these issues.
We had intended to raise some of our concerns about the room earlier in the day and tried to speak to someone at reception, but there was nobody there.
Later, we went downstairs for dinner, which we had booked, only to discover that the restaurant was closed. We had received no prior notification that the restaurant itself would be closed.
As there was again nobody at reception, we went into the bar and spoke to a female member of staff. She confirmed that the restaurant was closed but told us that we could sit in the bar and eat our meal there that evening.
Our biggest problem, however, was the noise and the disturbance to our sleep.
At approximately 11:15pm, the music coming from downstairs became noticeably louder. The volume appeared to vary between tracks — louder during one track and quieter during another — but it continued while we were trying to sleep.
I checked on my phone what time the bar was shown as closing and it stated 11pm. As it was approaching 11:40pm and the music was still disturbing us, my partner went downstairs to ask for it to be turned down.

Room looked a little tired...in need of redecoration.

The one small downside is that the restaurant and bar are one and the same and as the place is very popular ( rightly so, it's lovely ), there isn't anywhere you can sit and just have a drink before or after your meal.
