there was nothing to dislike
I did not have breakfast because i had to leave before it was served.
The gardens were lovely and the situation is beautiful.
My room over looked the flat kitchen roof and a bank of pine trees. No panoramic view. The kitchen ventilation was all via the flat roof so noise and smells necessitated closed windows on one of the hottest days of the year. The staff were not friendly - except in the bar - curt and only able to respond for their allocated area. No sense of team or welcome.

It’s a characterful building and room for everyone in the public spaces.
I would have liked something like a library where there wasn’t a television on permanently and children running around. It is lovely to hear people enjoying themselves, but it’s also nice to get away to somewhere quiet.

We arrived late from the ferry and were instantly made welcome. The night manager, Mark, was friendly, helpful and professional. Good sized room with notes from the house team welcoming us and everything pristine. Good coffee in the room as well as water and herbal teas, very comfortable bed, excellent room temperature (not cold but not stuffy and overheated) and great shower with lovely bath products. The breakfast next morning kept up the quality with friendly service and well-cooked, tasty ingredients.
We were only there one night as it was a stop-over on our way and it was sad not to have longer.
