Pros:

The room, the comfort, the terrace, location, and hotel is maybe the prettiest in whole Opatija.

Cons:

Extremely slow staff, the check in lasted for ages. And right below my room was like a venue for the wedding that lasted by 2 in the morning?!

Before our arrival, the hotel staff were exceptionally friendly and responsive in their messages, which created a very positive first impression and raised our expectations.

Unfortunately, our experience changed significantly after check-in. A few hours after arriving, a notice appeared in the elevator informing guests that a wedding reception would be taking place that evening. The wedding was held in the hall directly in front of our balcony, yet at no point before our arrival, during our email communication, or even at check-in were we informed that such a large event was scheduled.

This was particularly disappointing because we were travelling with our 5-year-old child. Had we known in advance, we would have requested a different room or reconsidered our booking altogether. The noise level was unbearable – it genuinely felt as if the live music was being played inside our room.

That evening, I returned to the hotel from a concert and found my child had finally managed to fall asleep despite the noise, so we did not make a complaint during the night. The following day, after I raised the issue with the hotel, they suggested moving us to another room. However, I explained why such a solution made little sense at that point. The problem had already occurred, and the sleepless night could not be undone.

To make matters worse, the following morning at around 8:15 AM, cleaning staff began vacuuming and cleaning directly outside our room, so even after the difficult night we were unable to get any proper rest in the morning.

Two days later, the hotel contacted us and offered a refund. However, five days later we were informed that only 30% of the amount paid could actually be refunded.

My advice to future guests: if you are booking for a Friday or Saturday, specifically ask whether a wedding or other large event is taking place. If so, I would strongly recommend avoiding Room 153.

In the end, I paid for a night's stay, but I barely slept at all.
