It was clean and comfortable. The view.
I was kept waiting for about 10 minutes when i arrived at 6pm, while the only available staff member, possibly the owner, prepared food for 2 of the other 5 customers in the bar. He walked past me several times while delivering food to the table but never acknowledged me. Once he'd finished he walked out and disappeared, returning about five minutes later with a young woman who kindly showed me to my room at the other end of the hotel. It was now 6:15, so I was somewhat surprised to be told that they stopped serving food at 6:30! It claims to have a restaurant, what it actually has is a deep fat fryer, in a small room adjacent to the bar operated by the chap on reception, offering a selection of basic fried frozen goods. The bar was open when I arrived on the Friday but closed soon after, so on the Saturday I asked what time the bar was closing as I had been invited out to eat elsewhere and would be back about 8 pm, I was assured it would be open. I returned at five past eight to find the bar locked and in darkness! Sunday it apparently never opened at all. No communication, no hospitality!
Breaking journey on the way back from Scotland.
Accommodation, breakfast and staff were all good. No issues and would recommend for an affordable stay.
Nothing, for the cost and what I wanted, everything was spot on.
The host was very welcoming. Very comfortable room. Great breakfast.
Excellent one night stay. Very comfortable room and friendly staff. Would recommend if in the area even to stop off for a drink and some food.
Nothing
View of the countryside and beautiful horses.
A very warm welcome from the hosts. Clearly explained house rules, keys, breakfast time, and check out, which was flexible. No problem in bringing takeaway for a later evening meal. Spacious bedroom with en suite. All very clean, neat, and tidy. Very informal and inclusive, with all staff enjoying and making an effort to help you enjoy your stay.
I would have appreciated blackout curtains, as the room's early-morning ambient light could be distracting.
There was no soap in the bathroom.
Was my 2nd visit to this hotel
Always made welcome
The rooms are great.
The staff are very friendly.
Would definitely recommend it.
There was nothing I didn't like.
Lovely breakfast cooked by the owner who was a really friendly, chatty guy. The room was big and the bed was comfortable
Staff is lovely 🤩

This venue is value for money with the owners and staff being very attentive - amenities are precisely that which you would expect of the venue when you view it. Ideal for short stays when exploring County Durham. They are renowned fot their Sunday lunchtime roasts.
