Really great pub with fine accommodation.
Pros:

Convenient location with awesome pub underneath - definitely worth eating there.

Cons:

The shower soap was empty and there was a lot of noise from outside early in the morning.

Do not recommend
Pros:

If location is the only thing that is important to you, than this is the place. We checked in and immediately regretted our decision and ended up booking a lovely airbnb down the road that was clean. I didn't even want to sit on the bed at the horse and jockey.

Loved the food,
Pros:

Food in the restaurant was great.. The beds were comfortable. It was clean. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

Cons:

Not enough towels. Only one bath towel and nothing else. No hand towel, no face cloth, no bath mat.

Pros:

The pub was nice. The hotel was not nice.

Cons:

The extremely loud music going until 1am was too much to bear. Could not even hold a conversation in our room over the booming disco music. Booking.com should not be promoting this place. It is a complete rip off. The bathrooms were not clean and had no lock. The room had no place to put your things other than the floor.

A very basic hotel room charging motel prices, would not recommend or return
Pros:

Location was handy being reasonably central in town, pub was okay for drinks

Cons:

Room was not very clean, very old with broken bed legs the collapsed during the night and had to prop up for the remainder of the sleep. There was no hot water in the morning and very temperamental to maintain even temp in the evening. No TV in room or in any common area.

Stayed in MATAMATA for one night so that I could catch with elderly family members the next day.
Pros:

It is an old pub hotel and the facilities match what you would expect from a premises built in the early 20th Century. There were communal bathrooms etc. I was oaky with that. It was handy that the restaurant was just downstairs.

Cons:

Nothing of note.
