King William is San Antonio's old German quarter, a few quiet streets of Victorian mansions and deep porches just south of downtown. After dark, it's where this self-guided ghost hunt takes place, played on your phone with the app.
Ten restless spirits are stuck here, each one bound to the mystery that killed them. You catch a ghost by solving its puzzle: a bride's last note with letters marked in red, a doctor's blood chart from the 1952 flu outbreak, an antique dealer's stock with forgeries slipped in. Every catch earns you a clue, because one of the ten has been lying, and the final puzzle asks you to name it.
The ghosts are fictional characters written for the game. The houses you walk past are real, and most are well over a century old.
Expect about 1.6 miles along King William and South Alamo Street, roughly 90 minutes at an easy pace. Start any day at any hour, alone or with a group. Hints are built into the app, and our support team is on hand 24/7.
The game starts at King William Park. After booking, we'll message you a code and activation link. Activate with your own email, then log in to the app with that email. No message? Open the app, tap "Bought a quest somewhere else?" and enter your booking reference number.
The hunt starts in King William Park, at the top of the old German quarter. The app signs you up as a ghost hunter, then checks whether you have the sight with a ring of strange numerals, one of them missing. Round the corner on Pancoast Street, a bride who died three days before her wedding left a note with letters marked in red.
On Washington Street, by the old Pioneer flour mill, the second ghost is a young doctor from the 1952 flu outbreak. You'll read his blood chart, a grid of numbers and blood bags, and work out the type a dying girl should have been given.
Back on King William Street, by the Italianate Villa Finale and the Steves Homestead, two ghosts are waiting. You'll take apart an actor's final monologue, where the numbers are spelled out as words, then sort a senator's evidence folders into the right years. Jonathan Rivers never finished his opening night, and Margaret Chen never made it home from a call about her daughter.
The route crosses into Southtown on South Alamo Street for three ghosts in a row. You'll compare four years of class registers to find a pupil who never existed, catch the forgeries in an antique dealer's stock by their dates, and work out which book opens a locked closet from a wildlife poster that gets its animals wrong.
Further up South Alamo, toward Hemisfair, the puzzles get harder. You'll match a professor's five artifacts to their civilizations and put them in order, then use a hotel floor plan to decide who should have left a burning building last. The night manager who followed those rules went back in for a child's cry and never came out.
On the walk back to King William Street, the tenth ghost is a priest who vanished in 1984 after finding a cult's mark carved into his church organ. Near the San Antonio Art League Museum, the app lays out every clue card you've won. One ghost has lied to you all night, and the hunt ends when you name it.
