We pick up from anywhere in Queenstown and further afield as planned
The first stop of our photography tour as we mihi and say an acknowledgment to the 'Story of the Whakatipu' both Māori ancestors and following settlers who came to Queenstown to explore and live a prosperous life. We photograph you against the backdrop of Lake Wakatipu and the historic waterfront buildings from the Gold rush of the 1860's. We then follow the route of the Kimiakau river to Arrowtown.
We arrive at the picture perfect Arrowtown, whose narrow main street has changed little since its golden years and as you wander curiously past the boutique shops down to the Chinese Miners Settlement we capture you against the backdrop of the season, golden autumn leaves or spring flowers that line the Arrow river.
We visit the magnificent Lake Hayes and capture your portrait against the stunning mountain scenery of the Remarkables across the Lake. Enjoy the native birdsong and reflection of this special place named Wai Whakaata 'Water that reflects' after a chief's daughter Hine Hukatere. Our landscape photography will record that reflection and you stood lake edge. Listen to the bird song and we will guide you into the wetland restoration project.
The famous Skippers Road and at Hedgehog or Lighthouse Rock we capture your silhouette against the mountains to the West above the 'richest river for gold in the world' the Kimiakau (Shotover). Listen to stories of old Skippers and the Gold Rush. The 'skippers' were the mining party leaders who bravely ventured by packhorse into this 22km narrow and winding unsealed road featuring still today shear drops 900m down to the river. We turn before Long Gully and this road leaving only your imagination to ponder their route after guiding you in the history.
We journey Lake Hayes past Thurlby Domain and climb the 5km to a fine vantage point at 1000m high nestled below Coronet Peak named for its crown of rock on the summit rewards us with views across the whole Wakatipu Basin, photographing you with the Remarkable Mountain Range, Walter & Cecil Peak. Your guide and professional photographer Simon will orientate you to both the Māori history of the landmarks and ancestors and the European settlors that followed the gold rush from Arrowtown into Skippers Canyon our next viewpoint.
