Step into traditional Moroccan craftsmanship and discover the art of plaster carving, locally known as gebs. In this 2-hour workshop, you’ll uncover the secrets of one of Morocco’s most refined decorative arts while working alongside a skilled local master craftsman.
The workshop takes place in the artisan quarter within the ancient souks of Marrakech, in the heart of the medina, just a short walk from the historic Ben Youssef Madrasa.
Begin with a live demonstration showing how traditional tools are used to carve intricate plaster patterns and transform simple surfaces into decorative reliefs. You will then receive your own prepared plaster tile and carving tools.
Guided step by step by the artisan, you’ll learn to carve Moroccan-inspired motifs. The workshop is accessible to all levels, including complete beginners.
By the end, you’ll complete your own handcrafted plaster artwork — a unique souvenir and lasting memory of your time in the Marrakech souks.
This experience is a walking tour from your riad or hotel to the workshop location. The plaster craftsman is easy to recognize, as his photo is shown on the experience page. The workshop is located near “La Maison des Babouches,” a leather goods store.
