1The Maya Ruins of Caracol
Located deep within the lush forests of the Cayo District, Caracol is one of Belize’s largest and most impressive ancient Maya archaeological sites. Once a powerful Maya city, Caracol offers visitors the opportunity to explore towering temples, expansive plazas, ancient residential areas, and impressive stone structures surrounded by the natural beauty of the Chiquibul Forest. The highlight of your visit is Caana, meaning “Sky Palace,” the massive temple complex that rises approximately 140 feet above the site. Climb to the upper levels for spectacular views across the surrounding jungle canopy and imagine what life was like when Caracol was home to a thriving Maya population. As you explore the site with your guide, you’ll learn about Caracol’s fascinating history, including its rise as a major Maya political and military power and its famous conflicts with neighboring cities such as Tikal.

2Rio Frio Cave
Located within Belize’s Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve, Rio Frio Cave is an impressive natural attraction known for its enormous entrance, dramatic rock formations, and beautiful river flowing through the cave. As you enter, you’ll be surrounded by towering limestone walls, stalactites, stalagmites, and unique formations created naturally over thousands of years. The Rio Frio River runs through the cave, adding to the peaceful and scenic atmosphere. With its massive openings at both ends, natural sunlight illuminates portions of the cavern and makes it easy to appreciate its impressive size.
