  Temple of Kom Ombo

  Continue to the remarkable Kom Ombo Temple, beautifully set on high ground overlooking the Nile River. This unique double temple is dedicated to two gods: Sobek, the crocodile god of fertility and protection, and Haroeris (Horus the Elder), the falcon-headed god of kingship. Admire its rare symmetrical layout, featuring twin entrances, courts, halls, and sanctuaries designed for each deity. Built during the Ptolemaic period, the temple is renowned for its beautifully preserved reliefs, impressive columns, and fascinating ancient carvings, including one of the earliest depictions of surgical instruments. Continue to the nearby Crocodile Museum to see a remarkable collection of mummified crocodiles and artifacts connected to the worship of Sobek.
