    Kampong Phluk Floating Village

Kampong Phluk is a historic commune of three stilted villages located on the floodplain of the Tonlé Sap Lake in Cambodia, famous for its houses built on massive wooden stilts that reach up to 30 feet (9 meters) high. The name translates literally from Khmer to mean "Harbor of the Tusks," referencing a local legend about a historical elephant harbor. Founded over a century ago as a traditional fishing settlement, the community is a prime example of extreme architectural and cultural adaptation to Southeast Asia’s most dramatic hydrological phenomenon.

    Tonle Sap Lake

Tonle Sap Lake is the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia and is world-famous for its extraordinary hydrological phenomenon: its connecting river completely reverses its direction of flow twice a year. Located in central Cambodia, this UNESCO Biosphere Reserve acts as the "beating heart" of the country, expanding up to five times its dry-season size every monsoon season. It serves as one of the world's most productive inland fisheries, providing critical food security for millions of people.
