Guests will meet at the Congress Hotel, north side of the hotel in the courtyard. The tour guide will be wearing a blue polo with the Tucson Food Tours logo on it. Please call the number that we provided if you do not see your tour guide.
Walk through the lobby of hotel Congress and listen to the stories about the fire and John Dillinger.
Host will start with some history and talk about how John Dilinger was captured here, after a fire at the historic Hotel Congress. Throughout the walking tour the guide will point out other historic landmarks and talk about how Tucson was the first North American city labeled a “ City of Gastronomy'' by UNESCO.
Guests will try a spanish dish
America’s first family of Mexican food who opened El Charro back in 1922 brings a culinary vision to Downtown. Sourcing of only the finest grass-fed beef, sustainable seafood, and cage free poultry. Tasting: Prickly pear glazed albondigas meatballs, chorizo stuffed mushroom plate, guacamole, chips and salsa + guests choice of margarita or local beer
Tasting: House made pastrami reuben sandwich on grilled rye with sauerkraut and melted swiss & thousand island. Roasted corn avocado salad (pistachios, tomatoes, queso fresco, chili-lime vinaigrette, mixed greens) & tempura battered fried cheese curds with house made mustard and sriracha ketchup
Upon arriving at Reilly Craft Pizza we will discuss the interesting history of the building, as it was originally built in the early 1900’s as a funeral home. The restaurant features a beer garden and a hidden bar in the basement. Tasting: Craft Pizza- -yukon gold potato & pecorino, mozzarella, roasted garlic, rosemary Brussel sprouts (sprouts, house hot sauce, sherry vin., pecan brittle crumbs)
