Step into the vibrant heart of the mercado of Antigua with Due South Travels and discover a side of the city most visitors miss. Winding through a colorful maze of stalls, you’ll experience the sights, sounds, and rhythms of daily life as locals shop for everything from fresh produce and spices to textiles and household goods.
Along the way, your guide will bring the market to life—explaining what you’re seeing, how it all works, and why this bustling space plays such an important role in Guatemalan culture. You’ll sample seasonal tropical fruits you may have never seen before, taste traditional Guatemalan sweets, and even try your hand at making fresh tortillas the way locals have for generations.
To round out the experience, we’ll sit down together at a humble, authentic market comedor, where you’ll have the chance to enjoy a traditional Guatemalan meal and learn more about the country’s rich culinary traditions. (Lunch is not included, but estimate Q40 per person.)
Please meet us on the corner of 6a Avenida Norte, and 4a Calle Poniente, in front of the ruins of a church (northwest corner).
The tour will end at Calzada Santa Lucia, at the intersection with 4a Calle Poniente.
This tour by Due South Travels will wind its way through the labyrinth of stalls and vendors in the municipal market, where locals come to sell their agricultural products and other goods. We will explore the market culture, sample some regional fruits, check out a traditional sweets stand, and then eat in a local "comedor" that serves typical Guatemalan food!
