    Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick

We pick you up from your hotel at 3:00 a.m. and begin a 2-hour 4x4 journey to the banks of the Tambopata River. From there, we continue by boat into the tropical jungle, where you may spot amphibians, mammals, reptiles, and fascinating insects in their natural habitat. Around 4:30 a.m., we head to the world’s largest macaw clay lick, the Chuncho Collpa, on a scenic 1.5-hour boat ride. Along the way, keep your eyes open for capybaras (ronsocos), tapirs (sachavacas), and, with luck, even the elusive jaguar. Upon arrival, witness an unforgettable spectacle as hundreds of parrots and macaws of different species gather to feed on the mineral-rich clay along the riverbank, creating a vibrant and colorful display. After enjoying this incredible natural show, we begin our return journey, arriving back in Puerto Maldonado around 12:00 p.m.
