Wenchi
Is not a mountain you climb. It is a world that collapsed inward, leaving a caldera so vast it reads less like geology and more like myth. Turquoise at midday, jade at dawn, a forested island rising from its centre. One of Ethiopia's largest crater lakes and one of its least-known. Cross by boat. Ride or walk the crater's edge. Let the forest close in dense, endemic, alive with birdlife found almost nowhere else. On the far shore, an island monastery speaks of centuries of deliberate solitude.
Wenchi doesn't announce itself. It reveals itself slowly, to those willing to pay attention.
