The city of Petrópolis, also known as the "Imperial City" because it was the refuge of the Portuguese imperial family during the summer, is a historic city that holds a beautiful architectural ensemble with buildings such as the Cathedral of Petrópolis, the Imperial Museum, where it was the residence of the imperial family and the Quitandinha Palace, which was the largest casino hotel in Latin America in the 1940s. Also known as the Imperial Palace, it is a Historical - Thematic museum located in the historic center of the city of Petrópolis. Its collection is divided into the following spaces: dining room, music room, state hall, Dom Pedro II Office, princesses' room and empress's visiting room.
Dedicated to the patron saint of Brazil, the cathedral of Petrópolis is one of the most important neo-Gothic constructions in the country. Designed at the end of the 19th century, this church stands out for the beauty of its facade and its countless overworked stained glass windows.
Stop of approximately 25 minutes. Meet “The Encantada”, Santos Dumont’s holiday home, full of details that reflect his creativity and inventive spirit. Among the curiosities are the iconic exterior staircase, which was designed to be climbed starting with the right leg, and the residence's water heating system, a rather advanced solution for the time. Entrance to the museum is optional and is not included.
Inaugurated in 1884. the Palácio de Cristal was a gift from Conde d'Eu to Princess Isabel in order to be used as a greenhouse so that she could grow her vegetables. Nowadays, the Palace houses several regional fairs and, around it, is where the famous Bauernfest is located, which takes place on the last weekends of June.
