The Corregidora Garden occupies a space with a lot of history that formerly was part of the vegetable gardens of the Convent of San Antonio. The beautiful monument that crowns it today was solemnly inaugurated on September 13, 1910, as part of the great celebrations of the First Centenary of the Independence of Mexico. The imposing statue of the Corregidora, a work directed by engineer Carlos Noriega, shows her with her right hand raised holding the Torch of Liberty. At the base of the pedestal, four eagles guard the monument alongside the symbolic figure of a slave with broken chains, paying tribute to the end of oppression.
One of the key points that enriches this tour is the emblematic Mesón del Obispado, a historic building located on Calle 16 de Septiembre. The old inns of Querétaro played a fundamental role during the Colony by serving as resting points, commercial exchange, and shelter for travelers, muleteers, and ecclesiastical dignitaries who traveled to the north of the viceroyalty. Its traditional architecture of central courtyards, ashlar arches, and thick walls evokes the hospitality of yesteryear and allows visitors to connect directly with the city's historical pulse.
Built between the 18th and 19th centuries, it gets its name from the five interior courtyards that make it up. Throughout its history, it has been a private residence, a banking headquarters, and, in recent times, a space dedicated to celebrations and cultural activities. Tradition places the first stage of the mansion as a residence linked to the Terreros family. Some versions name Pedro Romero de Terreros, first count of Regla, as one of its owners in the 18th century. In 1839, the property was acquired by the textile entrepreneur Cayetano Rubio, owner of the Hércules factory, who used it as a family residence. At the beginning of the 20th century, the property served as the headquarters of the National Bank, inaugurated in 1905.
