This is not another tour to Poás Volcano. It is a private experience, for those who prefer to travel slowly rather than do mass tourism. We pick you up at a time that suits you best, right from your hotel or Airbnb, without having to move and without wasting time picking up other people.
In Poás this is important: those who climb after mid-morning often find the crater covered by clouds. That's why we go first, when there's a better chance of seeing it clear. We stopped in front of one of the largest active craters on the planet and visited Laguna Botos, with waters that change color.
We follow the iconic La Paz Falls to discover a secret passage that many overlook. We close at Hacienda Alsace, the only Starbucks coffee farm in the world, where you learn where each cup comes from.

1Poas Volcano
We start with the main course. In Poás, the time is very important those who climb after mid-morning usually find the crater covered by clouds. That is why we are going straight, when there is more chance of seeing it clear and before the mass groups arrive who make other stops earlier. We will visit Poás Volcano National Park, home to one of the largest and most accessible active craters in the world. From the main viewpoint you will walk to the crater to observe, when conditions permit, its volcanic lagoon and the landscape formed by its geological activity. You will understand the eruptive history of the Poas, its scientific importance and how it has shaped the soils and ecosystems of the region. There is also time for the surrounding mountains and the Botos lagoon, with its turquoise color. The climate changes fast in this high mountain area: so get ready to experience one of the most emblematic volcanoes of Costa Rica according to the conditions of the day.

We will stop to take in the breathtaking La Paz Falls, one of the most iconic waterfalls in the Poás volcano region. From the viewpoint you can watch the river rush between rock formations and lush vegetation, creating one of the most photographed natural landscapes in the area. The guide will explain how the volcanic activity of the Poás has shaped this landscape and how the rivers that rise in its mountains feed these waterfalls. We will have time to enjoy the view, take pictures and appreciate the rainforest surrounding the waterfall. This stop allows you to discover another side of the Poás volcanic ecosystem, where water, mountains and vegetation create a truly spectacular natural scenery.

3San Fernando Waterfall
We will stop at the viewpoint of San Fernando Waterfall Viewpoint, one of the most impressive scenic spots in the Poás volcano region. From here you can see the spectacular San Fernando Fall descending among the mountains covered with rainforest. This viewpoint offers a unique perspective of the area’s volcanic landscape, where rivers rising in the Poás Mountains form deep ravines and high-rise waterfalls. We will have time to enjoy the view, take pictures and observe cloud forest birds, including hummingbirds and other tropical species that frequent this area. Here we will also take time to have lunch at a local viewpoint restaurant, where you can enjoy delicious typical Costa Rican food while taking in the mountain scenery. Lunch is optional and not included.

4Hacienda Alsacia Starbucks Coffee Farm
We will visit Hacienda Alsacia Starbucks Coffee Farm, the only Starbucks coffee farm in the world. Located on the slopes of the Poás volcano, this estate combines agricultural research, sustainability and specialty coffee production and the beautiful Starbucks coffee shop of the world. During the visit you will learn how coffee is grown in volcanic soils and how each stage of the process, from plant to cup, influences the final taste. We will walk around the estate as the guide explains the coffee varieties, growing methods and work Starbucks does here to improve the quality and sustainability of coffee globally. The tour includes time to enjoy the panoramic views of the volcanic mountains and, if desired, taste a cup of coffee grown on the same estate.
