Most visitors arrive at Manuel Antonio by tour bus, meet it on a crowded trail, and leave soon after midday. This day is built to slow it down. You head out from San José for the central Pacific and stop first at the Croc Skywalk, where a walkway crosses the Tárcoles River and wild crocodiles rest on the banks below, scarlet macaws passing overhead.
Then comes Manuel Antonio National Park, home to a beach Tripadvisor ranks among the world's top 25. A sloth hangs off the trail, monkeys cross above you, and the forest opens onto white sand and calm water. A short detour reaches Playa Las Gemelas, a cove most people miss, and the day closes in Jacó as the sun drops into the sea.

1The Croc Skywalk
Cross the raised walkways over the Tárcoles River and look down on wild American crocodiles below. This stretch of coast is also known for its scarlet macaws, so keep an eye on the sky.

2Parque Nacional Manuel Antonio
Costa Rica's most visited national park, where rainforest runs right down to the beach. We arrive early on purpose: cooler air, more active wildlife, and quiet trails before the midday crowds.

Follow the park's main trail and watch for sloths, white-faced monkeys and iguanas, with your guide pointing out what most visitors miss on their own.

4Playas Gemelas
A hidden beach few travelers ever reach, tucked beyond the busier sand. We make the detour for a calmer stop with the forest right at the water's edge. Great spot for photos and wildlife.

The park's signature beach: a curve of soft white sand and gentle water, sheltered by forested headlands. Good for a swim or some shade under the trees.
