Built around your ship’s schedule, this Puerto Limón shore excursion begins at Veragua Rainforest, a mountain reserve that National Geographic Traveler called “the crème de la crème of the tropical rainforest.” Walk beneath towering trees, discover the reserve’s work in conservation and research, then ride an open-air aerial tram through the canopy for a view few rainforest trails can offer.
Next, trade the treetops for the jungle waterways of the Tortuguero Canals, often called Costa Rica’s Amazon. Cruise past dense vegetation while watching for sloths, howler monkeys, toucans, crocodiles, bats, and aquatic birds.

Meet your guide outside the main entrance to Puerto Limón Cruise Port at 8:00 AM or 30 minutes after your ship arrives, whichever is later. Your guide will hold a sign with your name. No pickup is available inside the terminal. Provide your ship’s name and arrival time when booking.

1Veragua Rainforest Park
Your rainforest journey begins outside the main entrance to Puerto Limón Cruise Port. Board your air-conditioned transportation and travel through Costa Rica’s Caribbean countryside toward Veragua Rainforest, a private mountain reserve that National Geographic Traveler called “the crème de la crème of the tropical rainforest.” Follow your guide along accessible rainforest trails before boarding the open-air aerial tram. Descend through the canopy past towering trees, observing the forest from above as the gondola carries you toward the riverbank. Continue along trails beneath the canopy and visit the biological research station to discover how Veragua combines biodiversity, conservation, and scientific study.

2Tortuguero National Park
Continue to Moín and board a boat for an approximately 60-minute cruise through the Tortuguero Canals, often called Costa Rica’s Amazon. Glide along the jungle waterways while watching the treetops and riverbanks for sloths, howler monkeys, toucans, crocodiles, bats, iguanas, aquatic birds, and other wildlife. After the cruise, enjoy fresh tropical fruit and learn more about Puerto Limón’s Caribbean culture and history during the return journey. Arrive back at the cruise port approximately six hours after departure.
