Agra, India

2 hours (approximately)
Offered in: English

This experience offers a rare chance to taste Mughal cuisine in the home of a family from Hakiman Street, one of the oldest communities in Agra’s walled city. We have partnered with the women of the neighbourhood, who prepare a traditional three-course meal using locally sourced ingredients, spices, and recipes passed down through generations.

Rather than dining at a restaurant, you are welcomed into a local home and invited to share a dastarkhan—the traditional spread of food and hospitality. The meal offers a taste of dishes and cooking traditions that are rarely found on restaurant menus, while the conversation around the table gives you a glimpse into the everyday culture, memories, and traditions of the old city.

It is food as a doorway into a living community—prepared with care by the women of Hakiman Street and shared in the place where these traditions continue to live.

What to expect

Begin your experience by walking into Hakiman Street, one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Agra’s walled city, and meeting your local hosts. You will be welcomed into their home and introduced to the traditions, stories, and everyday life of the community.

You will then sit around a traditional dastarkhan, the customary spread of food, and enjoy a freshly prepared three-course Mughal meal. The food is prepared by the women of the household using traditional recipes, locally sourced ingredients, and spices.

As you eat, you can speak with your hosts, learn about their food traditions and everyday life, and discover how these culinary practices have been preserved within the community. This is not simply a meal—it is an opportunity to slow down, spend time with a local family, and experience Agra through the people who call its old city home.

After the meal, head to the rooftop, where you can take in beautiful views of the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort from the heart of the old city. Take your time, enjoy the view, and soak in the atmosphere before saying goodbye to your hosts.
