What to expect
Founded in the 13th century by Saint Abuna Tekle Haimanot, Debre Libanos is one of Ethiopia’s most important religious and cultural sites. Explore the monastery complex, visit the church built above the saint’s tomb, and learn about Ethiopia’s Orthodox Christian heritage.
Walk to the nearby sacred cave where Saint Tekle Haimanot is believed to have spent many years in prayer, and see the natural spring considered holy by pilgrims.
