Itsukushima Shrine, located on Miyajima (literally "Shrine Island"), is one of Japan's most iconic and sacred sites. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is famous for its "floating" torii gate, which appears to rise majestically from the sea during high tide. The shrine itself is a stunning example of Shinto architecture, harmoniously blending with the surrounding natural beauty of the Seto Inland Sea and lush forests. Originally constructed in the 6th century and expanded in the 12th century by the powerful Taira no Kiyomori, the shrine has long been a spiritual and cultural symbol of Japan. Visitors can walk along the wooden corridors of the shrine, offering breath-taking views of the sea and the torii gate. Depending on the tide, you can either admire the torii gate from afar or walk up close to it during low tide. Miyajima is also home to friendly deer that freely roam the island, adding to the magical charm of the visit.
Shukkeien Garden is a traditional Japanese garden in Hiroshima, originally constructed in 1620 during the Edo period. The garden’s name means "shrunken scenery," as it beautifully replicates natural landscapes in a miniature form. Visitors can enjoy walking along the winding paths, crossing picturesque bridges, and admiring the seasonal flowers and koi ponds. Shukkeien is a peaceful retreat in the city, offering a glimpse into Japan’s artistic landscaping traditions.
Hiroshima Castle, also known as "Carp Castle," is a beautiful reconstruction of the original castle that was destroyed during the atomic bombing. The castle stands in the heart of Hiroshima, surrounded by a tranquil moat and lush greenery. Although you’ll be viewing the castle exterior during this tour, it's worth noting that the castle’s interior houses a museum that showcases samurai culture and Hiroshima's history. The castle grounds also feature a peaceful garden, perfect for a leisurely stroll.
