Step into one of South India's last great wildernesses on a jeep safari through Amrabad Tiger Reserve, a forest spanning over 2,600 square kilometres of the Nallamala hills. These tracks once served the Nizams of Hyderabad on their private hunts, and today they offer travelers a rare chance to move through a genuinely wild, largely unvisited landscape. Your naturalist guide reads the forest as you go, alarm calls from langurs, fresh tracks in the dust, the particular stillness that often precedes a predator's appearance, while you scan for tigers, leopards, Indian wolves, wild dogs, sloth bears, honey badgers and herds of chinkara, nilgai and blackbuck moving through the trees. Amrabad is home to one of the most diverse mammal populations of any tiger reserve in India, and while sightings are never guaranteed, the experience of traveling through a functioning wild ecosystem in late afternoon, when wildlife is most active, is extraordinary in itself.

Day 2
Trek to Prataparudra Fort and Return to Hyderabad

Set out before sunrise for a walk through the forest to the ruined fort of Prataparudra, last king of the Kakatiya dynasty, whose fall to the Delhi Sultanate in 1323 AD closed one of South India's most powerful empires. The pre dawn hours are when the forest is at its most alive, birds calling at their loudest and nocturnal animals still making their way back from the night's movement, so the walk itself becomes part of the wildlife experience. The trek covers moderate forest terrain across roughly 60 to 90 minutes each way, cool and unhurried in the early light. At the fort, weathered stone walls rise above the tree canopy, and the views over the reserve in the soft morning light reveal just how vast and untouched this wilderness truly is, a fitting final chapter to a journey through one of India's least known tiger reserves.
