Step into a living piece of history along an ancient, signposted trail connecting the old mills, and experience an open-air museum in the charming hamlet of Villatico, near Colico. Discover Molino Maufet, one of the FAI “Places of the Heart,” a beautifully preserved watermill with a unique story.
Follow a scenic 6 km loop along historic paths once used to link the mills, leading you through the panoramic area of Robustello and the medieval site of Fontanedo. Along the way, enjoy breathtaking views over Lake Como and stop for a picnic with local specialties: a selection of local cheesesand cured meats, honey, jams, seasonal fresh fruit, dessert, and a bottle of red/white wine for every two guests. Overlooking the shimmering waters of Lake Como and nestled on the slopes of Monte Legnone, Villatico has grown in harmony with the ancient Roggia Molinaria, a canal that, since the late 13th century, powered as many as twelve watermills—shaping the life and identity of this remarkable place.
