Built more than 5,000 years ago, it reveals the ingenuity of ancient communities & the mystery of their history. Although less famous than Stonehenge, Avebury is larger than any other stone circle in the British Isles, & visitors can walk among the stones with few restrictions. Here, you can touch the monoliths, feel their smooth surfaces, & connect with Britain’s ancient past in one of its most fascinating and beautiful landscapes.

1Avebury Manor
After arriving at Avebury, our first stop will be the stunning Manor House. The manor house dates to the 16th century and in the early 20th century was bought and lived in by Alexander Keiller, the archaeologist and historian who studied the area and restored the ancient stone circle. The Manor House was the nerve centre of the operation, and your guide will tell you the story of the charming and intelligent Keiller and his magnificent obsession. The beautiful manor house garden is also a must see

The museum tells the story of the landscape and its ancient people, and contains artefacts found in the stone circle and surrounding area. Should you wish, you will have an opportunity to eat at the cafe at the visitor centre or take the short walk to a nearby Pub for lunch.

The best way to see Avebury is to walk around the whole stone circle and explore. Your expert guide will walk with the clients and guide them around the stunning stone circle. You will see the stunning Henge enclosure, and if you want, you can walk inside it - which is something impossible at the more famous Stonehenge. Your guide will reveal how deep the henge really is and its relationship with underground springs. You will also hear how the stone circle was “discovered”, how it was taken apart and one man’s obsession to restore this amazing site. The secrets and mysteries of various stones will be revealed. Then you will discover how Avebury was and is part of a much wider landscape dating back five and a half thousand years.

4Silbury Hill
Silbury Hill is a marvel that dates back four thousand years, and nobody knows why it was built. The ancient structure can be seen for miles around, and your guide will reveal how generations shaped it and came from far and wide to help build this ancient monument.

5West Kennet Long Barrow
Your last location before returning to London will be the West Kennet Long Barrow. The view from the barrow is amazing, as is the chance to explore the interior of this ancient burial site. Your guide will tell the story of this mysterious five-and-a-half-thousand-year-old tomb. You will also discover who was found buried inside, how the ancient people of Britain buried their loved ones and how this strange and unique feature of the landscape was restored.
