Visit the Valley of the Kings, also known as the Valley of the Gates of the Kings. This iconic site served as the royal burial ground for nearly 500 years during the New Kingdom period, from the Eighteenth to the Twentieth Dynasties. Carved into the cliffs of a desert wadi on the west bank of the Nile—directly across from ancient Thebes (modern-day Luxor)—this sacred valley is the final resting place of pharaohs and powerful nobles.
