Prison Island also known as the Changuu Island lies about 30 minutes by boat from the Unguja Isand. The Prison area was never used to house prisoners, it was used by an Arab slave trader to contain the more troublesome slaves he had brought from the African mainland. The prison ended up being used as a quarantine center, instead of a prison for yellow fever epidemics that once raged the region. In 1919 the British governor of Seychelles sent a gift in form of four Aldabra giant tortoises to Changuu. Presently this species is considered vulnerable has been placed on the IUCN Red List. Our dream sandbank called Nakupenda (in Swahili means I LOVE YOU), a place where it has a very white sand, limpid and crystalline water. The language of the white sands and their alternative sea appear and disappear.
