Step off the beaten path when you visit this majority Kichwa stronghold of Andean Inca heritage. Our fluent English/Spanish guide from Loja shows you the best that this seldom seen Shangra La nestled in the verdant sierra mountains has to offer. Located between Cuenca, a UNESCO world heritage site, and Loja, one of Ecuador’s oldest colonial cities, the town built by hand of local adobe is home to the welcoming Saraguo people who dress proudly in their traditional costumes every day. This excursion will take you to artisanal weaving workshops, walk you through markets for unique locally handcrafted jewelry, textiles, and pottery, have you tasting excellent locally made beer or cheese, and guide you through the museum of indigenous culture.
