We pick up all travelers from the selected Kemi or Tornio pickup point. Round-trip shuttle transport to Axelsvik is included. Pickup and return times use Finnish local time. Pickup times vary by stop. Please select one of the listed pickup points.

What to expect

Board the Polar Explorer at Axelsvik in Swedish Lapland for a 3-hour icebreaker cruise on the frozen Gulf of Bothnia. Watch the ship move through sea ice, explore seven decks with an audio guide, and see the Icebreaker Cinema film.

During the cruise stop, step onto the frozen sea when conditions allow. You can also put on a thermal survival suit and float in the icy water. The crew makes the final decision on all ice activities based on ice thickness, sea conditions and safety.

Warm up with a hot drink on board. At the end of the cruise, receive a Cruise & Swim Certificate signed by the Captain.

After the cruise, return by shuttle to your selected Kemi and Tornio drop-off point.

The total experience lasts approximately 6 hours, including transfers.

  • Bring a passport or national ID card. Wear warm clothing and winter boots. Minimum height for ice floating is 125 cm. Ice walking and floating depend on conditions and the crew's safety decision. Strollers may be brought on the transfer, but access on board is not guaranteed. Cruise times use Swedish local time; Kemi and Tornio shuttle pickup and return use Finnish local time.
