The Poon Hill Trek takes you through the Annapurna region, one of our favourite trails to share with guests. Some call it the short Annapurna Circuit Trek. It is full of picturesque villages and beautiful rhododendron forests. If you come in spring, between March and April, the rhododendrons are in bloom and the whole forest turns different shades of red and pink.
The highlight of the trek is the early morning walk up to Poon Hill (3,210 m), where you get a wonderful sunrise view of the whole Annapurna range, including Dhaulagiri (8,167 m), Annapurna I (8,091 m), Machhapuchhre (6,997 m), and more.
The trail has some ups and downs, but it is suitable for anyone with a basic level of fitness. The climb up to Ulleri, with its more than 3,000 stone steps, is the hardest part. It takes some effort, but we promise it is worth it.
The price includes pick-up from a hotel in the area of Pokhara-Lakeside, the tourist district of Pokhara. Pick-up from hotels outside Pokhara-Lakeside may require an additional fee. Please contact us for more information.
After your breakfast at the hotel in Pokhara, we pick you up and drive to Nayapul, at 1,000 m, about 1 hour away. From here, we begin trekking, around 6 hours in total, with a lunch break on the way. You will pass through traditional villages and terraced rice fields, and see how people here still live close to the land. The last part is the hardest, over 3,200 stone steps climbing up to Ulleri at 2,054 m. It is tiring, we will not pretend otherwise, but the lodge waiting for you, with a warm dinner and a good rest, makes it worth it.
Today is more relaxed than yesterday's climb to Ulleri. The trail takes us through rhododendron forests, past small waterfalls and quaint bridges. We stop for lunch in Nangethati, then continue to Ghorepani (2,879 m), known for its blue-roofed houses, where we arrive in the late afternoon. From here, you get a wonderful view of Dhaulagiri (8,167 m), the first peak over 8,000 meters on this trek. We spend the night in a cozy lodge, with a good dinner waiting for us.
We wake up early to climb up to Poon Hill (3,210 m) for sunrise, one of the most beautiful moments of the whole trek, with Dhaulagiri, Fishtail, and the full Annapurna range all in front of us. After breakfast back in Ghorepani, we continue through rhododendron forests and past wild creeks, all the way to Tadapani (2,590 m), where we spend the night in a cosy lodge with a heated common room.
We descend through rhododendron and oak forests, full of birdlife, down to Ghandruk (1,940 m), a beautiful Gurung village with panoramic mountain views. After lunch and some time to explore, we continue to Syauli Bazar, where a 2 hour drive brings us back to Pokhara.
