    We depart Cusco early at 6:00 AM, driving through Chinchero and Urubamba to our first official technical stop in historic Ollantaytambo. You will have 30 minutes to use the restrooms and buy breakfast (not included). Afterwards, our scenic drive crosses the dramatic Abra Málaga pass (4,318m), showcasing stunning snow-capped mountains and red clay hills. We will descend directly into the high jungle and make a brief 15-minute rest stop for facilities in the Alfamayo/Santa María area before continuing the road trip.

    We arrive at Hidroeléctrica in Santa Teresa for an included traditional lunch and a final briefing. From here, your high-endurance challenge begins: a mandatory 11km (7-mile) hike along the tropical railway tracks. This flat but physically demanding 3-hour trek follows the beautiful Vilcanota River—the exact trail used by Hiram Bingham. You will arrive in Aguas Calientes around 5:30 PM to check into your hotel, enjoy a group dinner, and receive your expert strategic briefing for the citadel.

By doing this early on Day 2, you guarantee access. The rest of the day is free to explore Aguas Calientes on your own (thermal hot springs, Mandor waterfalls, or local markets). Note: If tickets are obtained on Day 1 afternoon due to favorable availability, your Machu Picchu visit happens today, providing total flexibility.

    Machu Picchu Citadel Tour & Return to Cusco

    The big reward! Early morning, we board the official shuttle bus up to the citadel (one-way ticket included) to save your legs for the main event. Enter the legendary Machu Picchu with your expert guide for an immersive 2-hour tour. After exploring, you will hike down the Inca stairs to the valley and start the 11km walk back along the railway tracks to Hidroeléctrica. Note: If you prefer not to hike down the mountain, you can purchase a return bus ticket on-site at your own expense.

    Our tourist transport will be waiting at Hidroeléctrica station (sharp deadline, last van leaves at 14:30 Hrs). Enjoy a 5-hour drive back through the mountains with 1 or 2 rest stops for facilities. We expect to arrive at Plaza San Francisco around 21:30 Hrs; however, mountain weather (like fog or rain at Abra Málaga) can occasionally cause slight delays. Your safety is our absolute priority, so our drivers always practice cautious mountain driving.
