Look down as well as up: the cathedral floor is a work of art, featuring 56 scenes engraved in marble by 40 artists between 1369 and 1547. It's visible in its entirety from 27 June to 31 July and 19 August to 15 November 2026; at other times, some parts are covered.

The Piccolomini Library, inside Siena Cathedral, is one of the city's most dazzling hidden gems. Commissioned by Cardinal Francesco Piccolomini in honor of his uncle Pope Pius II, it houses a breathtaking series of frescoes by Pinturicchio, vividly depicting scenes from the pope's eventful life. The room also displays precious illuminated manuscripts and choir books collected over centuries. With its vibrant colors and intricate detail, it's a true Renaissance treasure not to be missed.
