This is a remote and much lesser known WW2 historical Museum. Like its counterparts in Nagasaki and Kagoshima the facility has a strong level of displayed English and its highlight are the many restored Japanese Zero fighters on display. For a history buff this attraction is a real gem!
A beautiful and countryside Japanese Shinto Shrine that we can walk up or drive to the top for a 360 degree view of the fertile lands below. A real nature enthusiast will love this location.
An excellent place to enjoy a tea ceremony and or tea workshop whilst sampling different speciality teas of the region. Yame is an up and coming tea producing region that will delight and impress you with its high quality and scenic beauty.
Check out the regions extensive tea plantations. Yame City in Fukuoka gets a lot of attention not just from producing a high quality grade of Green Tea and other types of brown tea as a result of its fertile soil and clean water supply from the Chigoku River. At the top of the observation point there is a small cafe selling various types of green tea, desserts and artifacts from local artisans. I am sure you will throughly enjoy the arts and crafts whilst consuming healthy and brain stimulating Green Tea.
A once in a lifetime experience. The punting canals of Yanagawa City are really popular right now and for good reason. The oarsmen will delight you with their actions, their personalities and of course their singing. Its an activity to sit back, listen and take in all of their magic. The fact that they will do this in 4 languages is also incredible. Of course they speak Japanese and English but also Chinese and Korean to cover their main tourist base. You have a great time transversing the water canals of this very old regional power dominated by the Tachibana clan in the 17th and 18th centuries.
Are you a shopper? If yes then this is a great place for you to check out. If not, it is a handy location to stretch our legs and maybe a quick toilet break on our way back to Fukuoka City. Generally we will spend about 60 minutes here, but those hardcore shoppers can extend this period of time and 90 to 120 minutes is not unheard of. However we may have to eliminate a previous attraction on the itinerary to get this option available to us.
If you are not a shopper and want to see more of Fukuoka's local culture then a stop at the Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, arguably the most important spiritual place in the entire island of Kyushu.
