Welcome to San José, Costa Rica. Meet and greet at Juan Santamaría International Airport, followed by a transfer to your hotel in San José. San José is located in the Central Valley, in the heart of the country, and is considered one of Latin America’s most cosmopolitan cities. Its strategic location provides convenient access to major attractions, including historic buildings, museums, theaters, handicraft markets, beautiful parks and shopping centers. The city also offers a wide variety of dining options.
Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning, transfer to the Northern Plains or delivery of a 4x4 rental vehicle at the hotel. Here, the impressive Arenal Volcano awaits—one of Costa Rica’s natural wonders, renowned for its majestic presence. Although there are currently no lava eruptions, smoke or ash may occasionally be seen rising from the crater. You can also enjoy the area’s thermal hot springs. Along the way to the town of La Fortuna, you will see agricultural plantations, ornamental plant nurseries and cattle farms.
We will visit La Fortuna Waterfall, where you can admire the impressive 70-meter cascade. A 500-step walk leads to the base of the waterfall, where a natural pool awaits if you would like to swim in the fresh waters of the La Fortuna River. Afterward, we will have lunch at an organic farm near La Fortuna. At 3:00 p.m., we will continue to Arenal 1968 Park. Here, your guide will explain the volcano’s natural and geological history. You will hike along a solidified lava trail and enjoy excellent views of Lake Arenal and Arenal Volcano.
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to Monteverde, a region of lush, misty cloud forests and extraordinary biodiversity. Monteverde is home to one of the planet’s rarest and most unique habitats, as well as an astonishing variety of flora and fauna. Its exceptional location along the continental divide between the Caribbean and Pacific coasts creates a distinctive microclimate that supports the many species inhabiting the area. Along the way, you will enjoy beautiful scenery and pass through several traditional Costa Rican towns.
Breakfast at the hotel. Set out on an elevated forest walk through the Monteverde Reserve, following nature trails and crossing six suspension bridges above the forest canopy—some extending up to 300 meters. Along the way, enjoy sweeping views from the mountaintop and discover the cloud forest’s rich and diverse flora and fauna. An optional specialized guide can accompany you and share valuable insights into this unique ecosystem. Complete your day with a visit to the Monteverde Butterfly Garden, where you will learn about Costa Rica’s insects and arachnids. This fascinating experience may change the way you view these small and often misunderstood creatures. The garden is home to up to 30 butterfly species across four different habitats, as well as more than 20 species of live insects and arachnids. Overnight at your selected hotel.
Breakfast at the hotel. This morning, you will begin your journey down from the mountains toward the warm Central Pacific coast. If you have chosen Manuel Antonio, you will visit Costa Rica’s smallest national park—and one of its most popular. The park is renowned for its beautiful beaches surrounded by mountains and forests, as well as the opportunity to observe wildlife in its natural habitat.
Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning, set out on a guided hike through Manuel Antonio National Park, considered one of Costa Rica’s natural treasures because of its abundant and diverse wildlife. Although it is the country’s smallest national park, it is also one of the most visited thanks to its beautiful beaches. The park features several hiking trails, scenic viewpoints and excellent opportunities to encounter wildlife in its natural habitat. At various points, the trails branch off and lead to four separate beaches: Espadilla Sur, Manuel Antonio, Escondido and Playita.
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure transfer to Juan Santamaría International Airport in San José. If your flight departs before 4:00 p.m. and your transportation is a scheduled shared transfer, a private transfer will be required at an additional cost. Have a safe journey home. We hope to welcome you back again soon.
