As your cruise arrives in Costa Maya, a day of local culture, traditional flavors, and the turquoise waters of Bacalar awaits beyond the port.
Spend time with a local Maya family in Chacchoben Village, where traditions are still part of everyday life. Learn about local plants and traditional home remedies still used today, try making a tortilla by hand, discover family recipes and ingredients, and share an authentic home-cooked Maya lunch with your hosts.
From Chacchoben, the day continues at Bacalar’s Seven Color Lagoon, whose waterways once served as a haven and passage for Caribbean pirates. Spend nearly two hours swimming, kayaking, floating on a tube, or simply relaxing by the water with a refreshing drink before returning to Costa Maya.

Your tour will depart one hour after your cruise docks, starting from the conveniently located Plaza Las Fuentes, just outside the Port. Please consider the total time to walk from your cruise to the excursion office is about 15 minutes.

Your adventure begins with transportation from Costa Maya, departing approximately 1 hour after your cruise ship arrives in port. Enjoy the approximately 50-minute drive to Chacchoben village, where you’ll meet a local Maya family and discover a more personal side of Costa Maya’s culture. Spend approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes with your hosts, learning about their traditions and daily life. Watch a traditional tortilla-making demonstration and try making your own, while discovering the fresh ingredients, local spices, and family recipes used in Maya cooking. Then sit down for an authentic home-cooked lunch prepared especially for your visit, including traditional tamales and other dishes made with fresh local ingredients. Add a little habanero sauce if you’re feeling adventurous! After lunch, continue approximately 25 minutes to Bacalar Lagoon for the second part of your adventure.

2Lago Bacalar (Lake of the Seven Colors)
After your Mayan Experience, continue to the spectacular Bacalar Seven Color Lagoon, famous for its crystal-clear waters and beautiful shades of turquoise. Spend approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes by the lagoon and enjoy it your way. Take a refreshing swim, grab a kayak and explore the calm waters, float on a tube, or settle into a lounger with your favorite drink while enjoying the views. This is your time to slow down and experience the natural beauty of Bacalar after a morning filled with Maya culture and local flavors. When it’s time to leave, sit back and relax on the approximately 1 hour and 10-minute return drive to Costa Maya Port, with your cruise schedule always kept in mind.

- For kayaking, the maximum weight is 220 lbs for a single kayak or 270 lbs combined for a double kayak.
- Transportation vehicles can accommodate foldable wheelchairs only. Vehicles are not wheelchair-adapted, and non-folding wheelchairs cannot be accommodated.
