Poás Volcano is an active stratovolcano located in central Costa Rica, rising to an elevation of 2,708 meters (8,885 feet) above sea level. It is famous for housing one of the largest active volcanic craters in the world, stretching over a mile wide and featuring a striking, steamy turquoise-blue acidic lake surrounded by cloud forest landscapes.

Hacienda Alsacia is Starbucks’ first and only global agronomy research and development farm, nestled on the slopes of the Poás Volcano in Alajuela, Costa Rica. Spanning over 240 hectares, this working plantation serves as both an open-air laboratory for sustainable coffee farming and a premier visitor center, where guests can take guided seed-to-cup tours, learn about disease-resistant coffee varieties, and enjoy fresh brews overlooking scenic waterfalls and lush volcanic hillsides.

3La Paz Waterfall Gardens
La Paz Waterfall Gardens Nature Park is one of Costa Rica’s premier ecological attractions, located along the forested slopes between Poás Volcano and the Caribbean lowlands near Vara Blanca. Spanning over 70 acres of primary cloud and rain forest, the private reserve features paved hiking trails leading to viewing platforms for five cascading waterfalls along the La Paz River. In addition to its waterfalls, it hosts the country's largest animal rescue sanctuary—home to an expansive walk-through aviary, a butterfly observatory, hummingbird gardens, frog and snake exhibits, and rescued jungle cats.
