This journey brings together three very different landscapes of Madagascar, from the humid forests of the east to the dry forests and baobab landscapes of the west.
In Andasibe, explore the rainforest and look for the Indri, Madagascar’s largest living lemur, along with other endemic wildlife. Further west, Kirindy offers a very different environment, with dry deciduous forest and species such as lemurs, birds, reptiles, and the fossa.
The journey continues to Morondava, where the iconic Avenue of the Baobabs provides a distinctive setting at the end of the day, particularly as the light changes around sunset. Together, these stops offer a varied introduction to Madagascar’s wildlife, landscapes, and local life.

Early morning departure westward. The scenery gradually transforms into dry savannah, with red earth, scattered vegetation, and zebu herds roaming freely across the landscape. We continue to Miandrivazo, a quiet riverside town known for its warm climate and lively local atmosphere. Located along the Tsiribihina River, it is a natural gateway to western Madagascar and the forests of the Menabe region.
After breakfast at the hotel, we continue our journey towards Kirindy Forest, one of the last remaining areas of western Madagascar’s dry deciduous forest. This distinctive ecosystem is home to a remarkable range of endemic species, including several lemurs, reptiles, birds, and the fossa, Madagascar’s largest native carnivore. Upon arrival, settle into your lodge before heading out for a guided night walk in the forest. As darkness falls, the forest takes on a different character, offering the opportunity to observe nocturnal wildlife and discover species that are rarely active during the day.
After a restful night, return to Kirindy Forest for an early morning exploration, when the forest comes alive with species beginning their day. Accompanied by your guide, you will explore the trails in search of lemurs, birds, reptiles, and other wildlife active in the early hours, when the cooler temperatures and softer light offer ideal conditions for observation.
After a local lunch, continue towards one of western Madagascar’s most distinctive landscapes: the Avenue of the Baobabs. Along the way, stop to see the famous Baobabs in Love, where two baobab trees have grown around each other, surrounded by local stories and traditions. Later in the afternoon, arrive at the Avenue of the Baobabs in time for sunset. As the light softens across the landscape, the towering baobabs create a striking setting and a memorable final moment in western Madagascar.
Today, we leave western Madagascar behind and make our way back towards the central highlands, with Antsirabe as our destination. Known for its traditional pousse-pousses, the city offers a glimpse into a distinctive part of everyday life in the Malagasy highlands. Once in town, enjoy a leisurely ride through Antsirabe by pousse-pousse, passing through its streets and discovering some of the city’s main landmarks at a relaxed pace.
The journey now takes you to a region very different from the dry landscapes of western Madagascar. As you travel eastward, the scenery gradually becomes greener, shaped by abundant rainfall and persistent winds. Along the way, enjoy the changing landscapes and the opportunity to encounter the warmth and hospitality of local communities. After checking into your hotel, you may choose to join a guided night walk in the reserve. This offers a chance to discover some of the nocturnal species that inhabit Madagascar’s lush tropical forests.
A day of exploration awaits in Analamazaotra National Park, home to Madagascar’s largest living lemur, the Indri. Its distinctive call carries through the forest, often becoming one of the most memorable sounds of an early morning in the reserve. As you explore the trails with your guide, keep an eye out for other species of diurnal lemurs, tenrecs, endemic birds, reptiles, and the many smaller creatures that inhabit this rainforest.
Following lunch, explore the hotel’s private reserve, where several experiences await. You may observe crocodiles resting along the shores of the lake, discover the reserve’s lemur island, and, with some luck, encounter fossas in their natural surroundings. A canoe outing on the lake offers a peaceful way to take in the surrounding forest and wildlife.
After these days of exploration, it is time to make our way back to Antananarivo. We will set off as soon as you are ready, following the road through the changing landscapes of the eastern highlands. Along the way, we will make a final stop at VOI MMA, where you can discover a variety of Madagascar’s wildlife, including chameleons, geckos, lemurs, butterflies, and other species found in the region. We will reach Antananarivo in the late afternoon and transfer you directly to your hotel, giving you time to settle in and rest after the journey.
