See Lake Manyara by vehicle and on foot on this private day trip from Arusha. You get your own 4x4 Land Cruiser with a pop-up roof and a local driver-guide, plus a guided walk with an armed park ranger, so you experience the park in two very different ways.

Lake Manyara sits at the foot of the Great Rift Valley escarpment. Your game drive passes through lush groundwater forest full of baboons and blue monkeys, then out to open woodland and floodplains where elephants, giraffes, zebras and buffalo are common. Stop at the hippo pool and scan the lake for flamingos and pelicans. The park is known for its tree-climbing lions, though they are never guaranteed.

Then leave the vehicle for a 1 to 2 hour walk with your ranger, learning to read tracks and spot birds up close. A picnic lunch is served in the park. Park fees, walking and ranger fees, lunch and water are all included. Minimum age is 12 because of park walking rules.

    Lake Manyara National Park

Lake Manyara National Park stretches between the Great Rift Valley escarpment and the alkaline Lake Manyara. Your game drive starts in the lush groundwater forest, home to large troops of olive baboons and blue monkeys, then opens onto acacia woodland and grassy floodplains where elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffalo and wildebeest graze. Stop at the hippo pool and look out over the lake, where flamingos and pelicans gather when water levels allow. The park is famous for its tree-climbing lions, though sightings are never guaranteed. You also leave the vehicle for a 1 to 2 hour guided walk with an armed park ranger through forest and woodland, followed by a picnic lunch at a scenic spot inside the park.
