What to expect
Your first landmark is the Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta, Como's magnificent cathedral begun in 1396 and completed over three centuries — a Gothic and Renaissance hybrid whose rose windows and carved facades reward slow, close looking.
From there the app takes you to the Diga Foranea Piero Caldirola, the long breakwater reaching out into Lake Como that frames the harbour and offers sweeping views back to the city and the mountains that enclose it.
The route concludes along the Lungolago di Como, the lakeside promenade where Como spreads itself along the waterfront with an elegant confidence, its waterfront gardens and colonnaded buildings forming one of the most pleasant walks in northern Italy.
Around 2 hours on foot. The old town is compact and entirely flat along the lake edge.
