What to expect
The route leads you from this memorial into the rebuilt heart of Caen, where medieval stones and postwar architecture stand side by side. The first riddles take you to Porte Saint-Pierre, one of the few surviving medieval gateways in the city.
From there, the trail continues to the Église de Saint-Pierre, its Gothic and Renaissance details a reminder of the extraordinary craftsmanship that existed before the wartime destruction.
The tour then guides you west to L'Abbaye-aux-Hommes, the Romanesque abbey founded by William the Conqueror and one of Caen's most impressive surviving landmarks.
Around 2 hours of walking, any group size. A fully charged smartphone with mobile data is required.
