What to expect

Starting at 1 Bridge Foot beside the Avon, you'll open the Explorial app, enter the 6-digit game code that you received by text and Viator chat message, and follow the river into town. The tour is fully self-guided — no guide, no fixed start time, just your group and the city.

Holy Trinity Church sets a reverent opening note — Shakespeare was baptised and buried here, and his grave carries a curse for anyone who dares move his bones. Riddles handle it respectfully.

The Royal Shakespeare Theatre follows on the riverbank, where trivia covers legendary productions and the actors who built careers on this stage.

Then Henley Street delivers the headliner: Shakespeare's Birthplace, the half-timbered house where the world's most quoted writer drew first breath.

Around two hours sees the story through, swans included. The leaderboard crowns the wittiest wordsmith — the Bard would approve.
