What to expect
The first clue leads to the Thomaskirche, where Johann Sebastian Bach served as cantor for 27 years and where he is now buried beneath the choir floor — a pilgrimage site for music lovers and a working church of extraordinary historical depth.
From there the app guides you to Augustplatz, Leipzig's grandest square, bordered by the opera house and the university's main building — the site of the famous Monday demonstrations in 1989 that helped bring down the Berlin Wall.
The route then takes you to the Rathausbrunnen, the ornamental fountain in front of the old town hall, whose Renaissance facade is one of the most beautiful civic buildings in Germany and frames the Marktplatz with effortless authority.
Around 2 hours on foot. Leipzig's city centre is compact and very walkable in any season.
