What to expect

Starting at Franz-Stelzhamer-Kai on the banks of the Traun river, you'll open the Explorial app, enter the 6-digit game code that you received by text and Viator chat message, and set off through the spa town. The tour is fully self-guided — no guide, no fixed start time, just your group and the city.

The route leads toward the Kaiservilla, Emperor Franz Joseph's summer home for over 60 years. Riddles unpack how a small salt town became the Habsburgs' favourite escape.

Next, the Kurpark invites a slower pace — trivia challenges hide among the flowerbeds and pavilions where Europe's high society once took the air.

At the Stadtmuseum, clues trace Bad Ischl's double life: salt-mining powerhouse and imperial stage, where Franz Joseph got engaged to Sisi.

Around two hours later, the final puzzle lands and scores are tallied. Coffee and Zauner pastries make a fitting victory ceremony.
