This private two-day experience brings together Cairo’s essential ancient sites and its historic city center without trying to squeeze everything into a single day. You’ll explore the pyramids of Giza, Saqqara, and Dahshur with your own local guide, then spend the second day discovering the Grand Egyptian Museum, the Citadel, and Khan El Khalili. Private transportation throughout keeps the sightseeing comfortable and flexible, while having a dedicated guide means the monuments come with context, stories, and time for your questions.
Our driver and representative will wait for you at the reception desk of your accommodation holding a sign with your name on it.
Begin with the iconic Giza Plateau, home to the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the Pyramid of Khafre, and the Pyramid of Menkaure. Your guide will introduce you to the stories behind these enormous monuments before continuing toward the Great Sphinx, whose human-headed, lion-bodied form has watched over the plateau for thousands of years. The day continues to the ancient pyramid sites of Saqqara and Dahshur, where you can see a very different side of Egypt’s pyramid-building history.
Travel south of Cairo to Saqqara, one of Egypt’s most important archaeological areas. Here you’ll see the Step Pyramid of Djoser, generally regarded as the earliest large-scale stone pyramid in Egypt. The surrounding necropolis contains tombs, causeways, and monuments from different periods, giving your guide plenty of context for how Egyptian funerary architecture developed long before the pyramids at Giza.
Continue to Dahshur, a quieter pyramid field south of Saqqara. The area is particularly known for the Bent Pyramid and Red Pyramid, monuments associated with Pharaoh Sneferu. Their unusual shapes reveal how ancient Egyptian builders experimented with pyramid design before arriving at the form seen at Giza. With fewer visitors than the main Giza Plateau, Dahshur also offers a more peaceful setting for exploring Egypt’s early pyramid architecture.
Grand Egyptian Museum The second day begins with a visit to the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), one of Cairo’s newest major cultural landmarks. Explore its galleries and learn about ancient Egyptian civilization through a remarkable collection of artifacts and monumental pieces. After the museum, continue into historic Cairo to discover the Citadel of Saladin and the lively lanes of Khan El Khalili Bazaar, where centuries-old architecture, local shops, and everyday Cairo life come together.
Visit the Citadel of Saladin, the medieval fortress overlooking Cairo. Built as part of the city’s defensive system, the citadel later became an important center of political power. Inside, you can explore its historic courtyards and mosques while your guide explains how Cairo developed around this strategic hilltop stronghold.
Finish your Cairo sightseeing in Khan El Khalili, the city’s famous historic bazaar. Wander through narrow lanes lined with shops selling souvenirs, traditional crafts, spices, jewelry, and other local goods. It’s also a chance to slow down after two busy sightseeing days, enjoy the atmosphere of Islamic Cairo, and browse at your own pace before returning to your hotel.
