Join local AFLW player and She Shapes History guide Rebecca for an exclusive tour of Melbourne's history of women in sport. You'll gain insider knowledge of Melbourne's women's sporting history as we walk from Melbourne's CBD to the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
From the lesbians who founded Australia's first gym for women to the Melbourne socialite who started a bike riding craze, this unique tour will leave you feeling empowered, entertained and inspired to learn more.
This tour is perfect for first time visitors, seasoned Melbournians and interstate travellers alike. We welcome all guests aged 13+ on this tour. The walk covers about 2.5km at a relaxed pace, and there are a few places to pause and sit down along the way.
Together we'll uncover some incredible stories of game-changing women and dive into the history that put Melbourne on the sporting map.

Meeting and pickup
We meet out the front of Melbourne's GPO, near the giant purse. Look for your friendly guide Rebecca in a pink She Shapes History shirt and tote bag.
We finish near gate 3 of the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

1Melbourne's GPO - Shopping Centre
We stop at Melbourne's GPO and invite guests to step back into the late nineteenth century. Together we'll learn about the 'freedom machines' and how they shaped women's lives at this time.

2Federation Square
We stop at Federation Square, one of the key places for football in Melbourne today.

Yarra River (Pass by)
This tour takes the scenic route along the sacred Yarra River (Birrurung Marr).

We stop at one of the few statues of women in Melbourne - the MCG is one of Australia’s great theatres of sporting memory, full of statues, legends, and monuments.

We stop at the second of two statues of women at the MCG and discuss the significance of the women who are cast in bronze here.

Australian Sports Museum (Pass by)
We finish near the Australian Sports Museum and highly recommend guests set aside time after the tour to visit the Museum.
